Julian, Dick, Anne, their tomboy cousin George and her faithful dog Timmy have to make new plans for the Easter holidays when George's father takes over Kirrin Island.

George, Anne’s cousin is furious that her father is going to ‘borrow’ her beloved Kirrin Island to conduct some of his mysterious experiments. Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog will no longer be able to spend the Easter holidays as planned, camping on Kirrin Island. George Rows to Kirrin IslandHaving recovered from their disappointment, the children offer to help George’s father, the explosive Uncle Quentin, by rowing over to Kirrin Island to deliver supplies. They are thrilled to be back on their island again but begin to suspect that Uncle Quentin might not be alone on the island. George and Timmy are PartedStrange events begin to occur after the four cousins make a new friend whom they meet on a trip to the quarry. Something doesn’t quite add up about the boy’s father and the children agree to not let on about Uncle Quentin’s experiments. During the next visit to Kirrin Island, Uncle Quentin tells the children that he heard someone on the island at night and demands that Timmy the dog is left on the island to protect him. George is, of course, flies into a temper at the suggestion of being parted from her beloved dog but has to give in to her father. Signals from Kirrin IslandUncle Quentin signals regularly to Kirrin Cottage but George becomes alarmed when she cannot see Timmy through her telescope. Her suspicions lead her to desperate actions and she sneaks off in the middle of the night to row alone to Kirrin Island. A Secret PassageArriving on the island, George is alarmed to hear unknown voices and begins to fear for her father's safety. The hunt for her father leads her down into the caves that lay beneath Kirrin Island. Her father relates the story of how he was betrayed by a fellow scientist whose associates have now come to Kirrin Island to try and steal the results of his latest experiment. The exciting adventure culminates in a chase through the caves and along a secret passage deep beneath the sea.
